Stock Market For Wrestling Shoes
By: Connor Boike and Shayne Tierney
“Stock Market”: The collection of markets and exchanges where the issuing and trading of equities and or stocks of publicly held companies, bonds, and other classes of securities are taken place
Individuals often purchase stock in hope that the value of that particular stock will increase overtime. There are hundreds of different factors that investors consider before investing in a particular stock (such as price, revenue growth, debt, etc) One particular stock which has been quite profitable in recent years is Apple. An investment of $990 in 1980 would generate over $521,000 today!
Is it possible for someone to generate a profit from wrestling shoes? We have all seen it; wrestling shoes purchased many years ago, retailing for less than a hundred dollars, now selling from several hundred dollars up to $1000! A classic example is the original Nike Inflicts. These wrestling shoes released in 1997 for ~$75.00 and eventually even had a close out sale for an extra 20% off. Today, these exact shoes are now selling from anywhere between $400 and $800 depending on the condition! This is $725 in profit from one pair of wrestling shoes, crazy! There are hundreds of different wrestling shoes which released decades ago that are now worth much more than their original price. These shoes are bought, sold, and traded on flickr, eBay, Craigslist, etc. While these shoes were released many years ago and it took decades for them to increase in value, one may wonder “what’s the next great shoe to invest in?”. Just like with the stock market, you must consider many different factors such as the number being produced, the demand for the shoes, and the overall quality, comfort, and “look’s” of the shoes.
For fun, we are going to analyze shoes made by us (Wrestle Boutique). To start things off, let’s look at the number of shoes we produce. Theoretically, the smaller the # of shoes are produced, the more potential that shoe will have for future resale value. We have designed our business plan around being exclusive, this means we produce extremely limited quantities of shoes. Next, we will look at the demand for our shoes. The more demand the shoe has, the more potential future profit. Every single release we’ve had has sold out within minutes, the demand is high! Lastly, we will look at the overall quality, comfort, and “look’s” of our shoes. The better the shoe functionally, the more it will sell for in the future. Here at Wrestle Boutique, we pride ourselves on the functionality of our shoes. Our shoes are designed for maximum usage and comfort. Now, let’s take a look at the very first shoe we released- the WB1.0. These shoes released almost 2 years ago for $185. A pair recently sold for $750 on eBay! Unlike any other wrestling shoes which have ever released before, Wrestle Boutique wrestling shoes sell-out immediately and instantly sell for several hundred dollars more than retail. Can you even imagine what they will be worth in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years?
Do you think Wrestle Boutique has the potential to be the “Apple” of the Wrestling Shoe Stock Market?
